Our History
"Dr. Kenneth Oberhue arrived at Miami Valley Hospital as an intern in 1961. He later left to undertake additional training in cardiovascular surgery at the University of Michigan and returned to Dayton in 1968. Miami Valley Hospital's first open heart operation was performed November 28, 1968 by Dr. Oberhue. The patient was a women with a mitral valve stenosis (narrowing). Dr. Oberhue performed the hospital's first coronary artery bypass operation in 1969."

Dr. George Brown had been a partner in our practice and on active medical staff for 27 years before retiring in 2007. Dr. George Brown led the initiation of the EMCO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Program at Miami Valley Hospital in 1984. At the time, MVH was just the eleventh hospital in the United States and the first in Ohio to offer this lifesaving treatment for critically ill newborns.
